Are conservatories exempt from building regulations?
Many conservatories are exempt from full building regulations provided they meet certain conditions, such as being at ground level, under a certain size, and separated from the house by external-quality doors. Glazing safety standards and electrics still need to comply even where the wider exemption applies.
Can I have bifold or French doors on my conservatory?
Yes, French doors, bifold doors and sliding patio doors can all be fitted between the conservatory and the garden, or between the conservatory and the house, depending on how you want the space to connect.
What is an orangery, and how is it different from a conservatory?
An orangery has more solid roof and brick pillar construction around a central glazed lantern, giving it a look and feel closer to a permanent extension than a fully glazed conservatory. It tends to hold heat better as a result.
