Local to Newport

From Bedwas, the western side of Newport is close by. We work in Rogerstone and Bassaleg, across the city centre streets and out to the newer developments on the edges. Because we are close, it is easy to arrange a survey, and easy to come back if anything needs looking at after the job.

Our Newport area page lists the services we cover in the city, from windows and doors to conservatories.

Choosing frames: uPVC, aluminium and colour

uPVC is low maintenance and comes in white, many colours and woodgrain effects. The finish can be chosen to suit the house rather than just the individual opening. Aluminium has slimmer frames and a crisp, modern look to consider for larger openings or a more contemporary house.

Colour is another part of the decision. Anthracite grey is available on both materials; see our anthracite grey windows page. Many profiles can have one colour outside and white inside, if you want a grey front without changing the feel of your rooms.

Window styles that suit Newport homes

Newport's older streets have plenty of terraces with tall, narrow windows, where flush casements or sash styles keep the proportions right. Semis from the middle of the last century usually have wider openings, where a casement with fewer, larger panes keeps the view clear. Flats and upper floors often benefit from tilt and turn windows, which open inward for safer cleaning.

Bay windows are common across the city as well. We measure each part of a bay separately and fit the new frames to the shape that is actually there.

Doors to match

A new set of windows is a good time to look at the doors too. Composite front doors pair well with most window styles and come in a wide range of colours. Patio doors suit a garden opening where you want to keep a wall either side, while bifold doors fold back to open most of the width.

Ordering doors and windows together keeps colours, handles and finishes consistent. Browse the options on our doors in Newport page.

Draughts, condensation and misting: signs it is time

A cold draught near a closed window usually means worn seals, a dropped sash or a frame that has moved. Sometimes an adjustment fixes it; our guide to draughty windows covers the common causes.

Condensation on the inside face of the glass is usually about moisture in the room and ventilation. Fog trapped between the two panes is different: it means the seal on the sealed unit has failed. Our guide to condensation on windows explains how to tell them apart. Failed hinges and locks can often be fixed without new windows; see window repair in Newport.

When frames are warped, several units have misted and draughts keep coming back, replacement usually makes more sense than repeated repairs.

Home survey and written quote

We visit your home, measure each opening and talk through materials, colours, styles and glass. You then receive a written quote showing exactly what is included. If you already have a quote for the same specification from someone else, show it to us and we will beat it.

When you are ready to go ahead, the frames are made to measure. On fitting day we take out the old frames, fit and seal the new ones, and finish the inside. Every installation comes with our 10-year guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Is anthracite grey available on uPVC?

Yes. Anthracite grey is available on uPVC as well as aluminium, and many profiles can be grey outside and white inside.

What causes condensation between the panes?

Moisture between the two panes means the seal on that sealed unit has failed. The glass unit can often be replaced on its own if the frame is still in good condition.

Do you remove and dispose of the old windows?

Removing the old frames is part of the job. Your written quote sets out exactly what is included, so ask at the survey if you have questions about disposal.

Can you fit new windows in winter?

Yes. Windows are replaced one opening at a time, so each gap is only open for a short period before the new frame goes in.
