Do tilt and turn windows open inwards into the room?
In the turn position yes, the sash swings inwards like a door. You need the space clear in front of the window, which is why they suit bedrooms and landings better than a kitchen worktop or a sink run.
Are they secure if I leave one on tilt?
The frame remains locked around the rest of its perimeter and the opening is at the top of the window, so tilt is far more secure than a casement propped on a restrictor. We would still not leave a ground floor window tilted when the house is empty.
Are they safe with young children?
The tilt position is the usual answer, as the gap is at high level. Removable and lockable handles are available so the turn function cannot be used by a child.
Can I have them in a period or conservation property?
Sometimes, and sometimes not. They are a modern operation and a planning officer may object on a front elevation in a conservation area. They are often accepted on rear and side elevations. We will tell you which before you order.
